Donna,
You're certainly welcome. Sounds like the University responded with a
working plan. It's too bad that the first plan was not very well thought
out as to the effect it had on the part of the neighbors. But maybe the UVa
authorities will remember this consideration in the future.I'd like to
think so.And I think we in the neighborhood should consider what the UVa
staff is going through,as the Fall semester begins ( I like to think of it
as,"the circus returns to town...! )
On a personal note,I want to say that I do understand the strain of
the extra traffic and people sometime puts on the neighborhood. My wife and
I have to pick up trash, including cigarette butts, cans, and food
trash, cups, etc, thrown out of cars and passers-by..This as well as a few
hours of not being able to drive easily on our streets. But luckily this is
a small price to pay for living here.
I am a native of what you called,"our lovely town",and began my life
in this very neighborhood.I am a graduate of UVa,and my family has been
associated personally and professionally with the University for over 100
years. It was never a 9 to 5 job,but a much bigger part of our lives,as are
our neighbors associated with it who spend/spent much of their lives with
the University, including a number of times that were difficult.
I am glad you expressed your frustration, and I am glad it has worked
out for you.And I hope all is going well for you at the University as well.
Let me know if we can help you as your neighbors.
Sincerely,
Tom Boyd
