[LMNA] Fwd: Resident Passes for Football Games - HELP

The difference between football game day passes and parking passes,

is that parking passes come from the City while football ones come

from U.Va.

We shouldn't go "off the deep end" on this. However the University

and the City should be informed about the confusion their

change in policy has caused.

Although I do not know when historically-speaking football games impacted the 'hood in any meaningful way, I agree with Mitchell here that the passes are actually a intended to be solution to a problem. They have been effective in maintaining some tranquility on game weekends.

Agree also that mailing passes (like our parking passes) is a good idea.

Cheers,

Lucie

PS....Somebody around here sprayed 2,4-D herbicide again (Weed-B-Gone and other lawn "maintenance" products are the usual source) and my backyard grapes were not happy about it. Not fatal to them but I hate to think of us all breathing in the volatile drift that the grapes reacted to.

Think of it this way: There are no passes, and the police allow tens of thousands of the Mongol hoards to park on our streets, have tailgate parties in our neighborhood, and block our drive ways. Instead of allowing the above mayhem on our streets, the university has police park on all our street corners to prohibit the mob from occuping our neighborhood. This is a great and expensive blessing that we have going for us. Secondly, the University and their football were here before the vast majority of our homes were built. Thirdly, our neighborhood is great to live in, largely because it is near to the University and its beauty and cultural advantages.

Of course, I think they should have just mailed the passes to us. They may even agree to do this next year if we asked, but let's not go off the deep end in the mean time. Let's not throw their tea in the ocean.

I agree with Howard about the almighty U. and this new antic. Asking for permission to drive in our own neighborhood ? If a family invests an immense of money in a home purchase, should they be told they can't leave their house without a pass ? Absurdum est ! Tantamount to bullying, this imposition of obtaining a pass. Homeowners don't cause the trouble. The U. and its athletics are causing the difficulty here.

What's the size of the athletic budget ? It must be very large. And the impoverished athletics people can't afford to distribute passes ? Come on, now. There are, of course, prestigious colleges and universities who have NO competing sports teams, and they seem to do very well in their job of educating students.

Dear Neighbors--

I agree that it is a burden to go through this rigmarole to be able to drive in our own neighborhood! i wonder if this would withstand legal scrutiny (any lawyers in the neighborhood care to opine?). I do not like UVa throwing its weight around like this.

for some years, rather than displaying the pass, i have shown my driver's license with my Bollingwood Rd address to the guards. This has worked so far.

best wishes,

Please see the note below from Board member Susie Gainer, who discovered a change in procedure for the "game-day" resident passes. Up until now, the athletic dept. has distributed these passes door to door. Sorry, but we didn't get any notice about this change either....Bill Rockwell, LMNA Co-Chair

Hi Bill and Terry,

I don't know how to use the listserv, but this year you have to apply for your resident pass for football games. (So glad I called.) You have to do all of this online.

The website is https://athletics.virginiasports.com/residents/

username is : resident

password is : uvagohoosgo!

It works as I just ordered mine.

Thanks UVa for letting us know.
